Cognitive Hypnotherapy
One of my core methods for helping you achieve the desired changes in your life is using Cognitive Hypnotherapy. This involves inducing a light/medium trance state to facilitate change at an unconscious level. Many of our unwanted behaviours, habits and phobias have been formed in response to events in our earlier life and are stored in the unconscious part of the brain, sometimes without us being consciously aware of their causes. By using a variety of techniques we can start to help you resolve past issues and behaviours, which were originally formulated to protect us, and reframe them so that we can leave old unwanted behaviours behind and generate new, more congruent attitudes, behaviours and beliefs about ourselves.

How is Cognitive Hypnotherapy different?
There are many schools of hypnotherapy basing their methods on different aspects of the art/science. Many of these use a one size fits all approach to problems such as phobias, weight loss and smoking. In essence they have a script for each condition which they will use with all individuals with that particular condition. This has varying degrees of success because unfortunately everyone’s problems are created in different ways and the process by which you carry them out can be very different, hence this approach to hypnotherapy is not always very effective.
The Cognitive Hypnotherapy approach used at The Elms draws on recent discoveries and ideas from Evolutionary Psychology, Positive Psychology, Cognitive theory and NLP and incorporates them into a modern idea of hypnosis to provide a framework for therapy. We feel that we have to understand you and your problem in a detailed way before we can begin to help you change.
What is NLP ?
NLP is a revolutionary approach to human communication and personal development. In many ways it defies explanation. It offers skills in interpersonal communication and practical ways to change the way you think and behave. The founders of NLP modelled the therapeutic processes of over twenty one of the world’s top therapists from a wide variety of fields. This then forms the core of NLP – taking all the best parts from a variety of therapies to form a tool kit of extremely effective and often fast techniques to help you change your life.
EFT – Emotional freedom technique
EFT is based on the discovery that imbalances in the body’s energy system have profound effects on one’s personal psychology. Correcting these imbalances, which is done by tapping on certain body locations often leads to rapid remedies. A series of tapping on certain points can dramatically improve a huge range of conditions from post traumatic stress disorder to phobias, anxiety and even depression. Based on similar principals as acupuncture EFT can have instantaneous and profound effects.
Psychological coaching/counselling
We have a wide variety of therapeutic techniques available to assist you in understanding the changes you might want to make to move towards the life you truly desire. We can then go on to encourage and support you in your new course of action. Coaching in the first instance is on a face to face basis with the option of follow up telephone coaching, if required.
Sports and Performance coaching
These days many of the top sports teams, men and women are increasingly realising that the physical aspect of their game is intrinsically linked with their mental outlook. The mind body connection is now not disputed. Whilst some sporting coaches are employing techniques of visualization, many still fail to appreciate the part that mental performance coaching and hypnosis can play in improving both team and individual performance.
At the Elms we can help with a wide variety of mental coaching for various activities, including team and individual sports. This is often successfully delivered via group seminars which would be an added benefit that your club can offer to its members.
